Needless to say, Laurence is intrigued.It was interesting to watch Louisiana grow in understanding and wisdom. She certainly changes a lot from when she meets Olivia. But I loved Louisiana's relationship with her father. Every girl should have a father that loves his daughter as much as Mr. Rogers treasures his little girl.
"Louisiana" is very easy to read, except for the North Carolinian dialect, but I picked it up quickly. I don't remember any formatting problems. I think there is one missing illustration at the beginning of this Kindle edition. Overall, it's a wonderful book.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, despite the fact that it's not one of the author's most well-known books.
The premise is that a country girl is transformed with sophisticated clothing and instructions to limit her conversation to see if a sophisticated city man will be able to guess where she's from. The plot develops somewhat predictably, but it's well-done and an enjoyable read.
I read this book while trying to find books for my sons (ages 10 and under) to read. This isn't a good one for them. It's probably best for ages 14 and above (including adults), and it appeals mostly to women, although men who are very well-read or who just enjoy late Victorian literature should certainly give it a chance.
Doesn't provide depth into the massive conflicts which place Louisiana in target center for Kings, Emperors and Politicians who realized it was the ultimate gateway to the occupation of the American Continent. Little is revealed about the interactions of governments and the overwhelming pressure of the people who by their numbers forced the events. The story is incomplete.
Not very scholastic, but so enjoyable.
I just love the sweet stories this author tells. She is a wonderful artist, who seems to find the good in people.
I enjoyed the story. The way some characters were portrayed and first changed through the book.
Like Louisiana stories
Overall a nice book about the differences between country and city life, and how judgement against a simpler, uneducated way of life is unjust. The way the author wrote in a "southern" accent was a bit bothersome... good read for when you are bored.
